Finding the Perfect Home
When you are looking for the perfect house for your rabbit, the first thing to consider is size. A rabbit needs as much space as possible to stretch, lay down and move around. There also needs to be enough room for a litter box, water bottle, food bowl, and toys. So a large cage is usually preferable. The next thing you need to consider is location. This depends on you and your family, you could have your rabbit cage in your room, your laundry room, or even the basement. You will probably want to have the cage in a family area so that the rabbit will not be left alone all day and forgotten. The last thing you need to consider is cage appearance. There are a couple factors that go into choosing what the cage will look like. It all depends on how much you want to pay for it, what you want the layout to be, what color or material you want, and what you want to put in it. A great example of a good rabbit hutch is the one shown on the upper right. It has a pull out tray for easy clean, a built in hidey house, a ramp, and an exercise run, so your rabbit can even more room. Having the right cage or hutch gives your rabbit a comfortable home.
Cage Necessities
There are a couple of things that every cage needs no matter what kind it is. First of all, you need a litter box. That's your rabbit's way of going to the bathroom and it keeps the urine and poop contained in a small space with easy cleaning. you can fill it with hay and change it once a week, or you can put a paper bag in and change it once a day. The next thing you need is a water bowl or bottle. Water bottles are usually more efficient because they only need to be refilled about once every five days depending on how much your rabbit drinks, and they can be clipped to your rabbit's cage. And the bowls are easily spilled and they get your rabbit's face all wet whenever they drink. You also need a food bowl and a hay holder. The food bowl is usually for pellets, treats, and other food like vegetables and fruit. The hay holder should always have hay and should never be empty. This can also be clipped to the side of the cage. You then need a hidey house. Your rabbit needs to have somewhere to hide, a place where the rabbit feels safe and can also sleep in. This may be built into the cage, or it could be plastic, wood, or sticks. The last thing you need is toys. Toys help keep your rabbit occupied with something to play with. They can be made of a lot of different things, but you should have at least to different toy for variety. These things provide your rabbit with a comfortable and enjoyable life.
